NASHCAR
I went to the NASCAR race, it was ecstatic.
I thought it was called nashcar before I moved here; I had no fucking clue. It's like religion in the south. Junior won and everything was great. Lots of alcohol and no fighting - a miracle.

A True Story
A guy just power-walked by my window. He was swinging his arms athletically but he had a cigarette clamped between his lips. He had an old, faded, red t-shirt on with a 'hello my name is' sticker with SATAN written on it.

Integration
Here is an interesting article from a very uninteresting paper: The Richmond Times Dispatch. I was tricked into buying it by these kids selling it door to door for their school. In a nutshell, this article describes how whites from Richmond hightailed it to the suburbs in the 1960's to avoid sending their kids to neighborhood schools. I've been told by locals that it was a very difficult time. At some schools they decided to integrate with groups of girls first. They figured they were less likely to get beat up. People spit on them in the hallway instead. Things have been improving and still continue to improve today.
